10/15 - 5/17 FinancialForce.com, San Francisco, CA

        

As a Project Manager for FinancialForce.com, I managed several successful implementations of:

  • Accounting/ERP
  • Human Capital Management
  • Supply Chain Management
  • Professional Services Automation

I organized kickoff calls and status meetings, and prepared project plans. I managed projects in Australia, Europe, Canada, and the US.

   

10/14 - 10/15 Centage, Natick, MA

        

Implemented the Budget Maestro suite of products for organizations in the US and in Canada. Budget Maestro is a sophisticated financial forecasting, budgeting, and analytics tool that enables organizations to efficiently prepare complex business models for strategic planning.

     

I implemented these solutions both onsite and remotely. I imported data from external sources and wrote customized financial reports. I also organized kickoff calls for new customers, and managed each implementation from inception to deployment.

      

While I was at Centage I also managed the User Training Initiative, an internal Scrum-based project designed to produce online training materials for users.

       

10/13 - 9/14 Sopheon, Arvada, CO

 

Managed multiple implementations of the Accolade suite of products for large companies. Those companies included:

  • Hillshire Brands
  • Reynolds Consumer Products
  • ExxonMobil
  • Novartis
  • Wells Fargo

I prepared project plans, organized kickoff meetings, facilitated design review sessions, and prepared status reports. I managed the scope, schedule, and cost for each project.

 

I also initiated two internal projects within Sopheon:

  • Global Process Strategies (GPS), a Scrum-based project where we developed processes for standardizing implementation procedures, and
  • Profit in Training, an initiative to derive more revenue from our classroom training offerings.

I prepared reports where profitability was analyzed for each project, as well as forecasts that estimated future costs and completion dates.

 

4/13 - 10/13 Community Preservation Corporation, New York, NY

 

Community Preservation Corporation provides financing to help develop affordable housing projects in New York.

 

I was brought in to assist with the implementation of a financial reporting and budgeting system using IBM Cognos TM1. After gathering requirements and creating a project plan, I managed the development of the solution.

 

We incorporated the following processes into the design:

  • Turbo Integrator (ETL) routines to import data from external sources
  • Cubes and cube rules with feeders
  • Chores
  • Dimensions with subsets and aliases, updated using Turbo Integrator
  • Applications
  • TM1 security
  • Active Forms
  • Snapshots
  • Slices

During our design sessions, we reviewed progress on the solution and made modifications as needed. I tracked the scope, budget, and schedule using MS Project. I assisted with the development of financial reports.

 

This project was successfully completed.

 

5/12 - 12/12 The SI Organization, Chantilly, VA

 

The SI Organization is a recent spin-off of Lockheed Martin. They are a Department of Defense contractor and the nature of their business is classified.

 

I was hired initially to review a project planning and reporting model developed with IBM Cognos Planning software. I analyzed their Cognos environment and made changes that improved system performance.

 

After implementing the changes, I then focused on developing an overhead expense planning model. This model included functionality to plan expenses by department, as well as allocate planned expenses across multiple organizations.

 

The overall team was comprised of a Cognos BI expert, three financial analysts, and three IT resources. I conducted one-on-one training with several SI employees.

 

These projects were successfully completed.

2/12 - 4/12 ManpowerGroup, Milwaukee, WI 
 

ManpowerGroup is a $22B international workforce management company. I was brought in to modify an existing Cognos Planning model and upgrade it from version 8.4 to 10.1.
 
After making extensive structural changes to the model in a development environment, I migrated the model to a new production environment. I also conducted onsite classroom training in Analyst and Contributor.
 
The project team included two IT resources, a financial analyst, and the finance manager.
 
This project was completed on time and on budget.

12/11 - 1/12 MDC Holdings, Denver, CO
 
MDC Holdings (Richmond American Homes) is one of the largest homebuilders in the US. I assisted with the redesign of some of their TM1 forecasting models.

I built new cubes and Turbo Integrator processes. I also analyzed and debugged TM1 rules. This project was completed on time and on budget.

4/11 - 6/11 GlaxoSmithKline, Pittsburgh, PA
 
GSK is an international consumer products company. I assisted with the deployment of a complex forecasting model using IBM Cognos Planning. I migrated the development model to a production environment. I also conducted classroom training in Analyst and Contributor.
 
The project team was made up of three IT resources and an outside consultant.
 
This project was completed on time and on budget.

7/10 - 9/10 JAS Worldwide, Atlanta, GA
 
JAS Worldwide is one of the largest privately-owned freight forwarding companies in the world, with more than 3000 employees and 230 offices. They needed their existing Cognos Planning models updated and modified for their 2011 budget process.
 
I gathered requirements and updated their revenue, expenses, and payroll models. The team was made up of two financial analysts, the HR manager, one IT resource, and the CIO as the sponsor.
 
This project was completed on time and on budget.

7/10 Midland Credit Management, San Diego, CA
 
Midland Credit Management works with credit originators and consumer debtors to resolve collection issues. MCM required onsite classroom training on Cognos Planning Analyst and Contributor, version 8.4, at their headquarters in San Diego.
 
I taught the classes there for a group of six employees. This project was successfully completed.

6/10 Universal Trailer, Cincinnati, OH
 
Universal Trailer is the largest privately-owned trailer manufacturer in the United States. They needed onsite classroom training for some of their managers on Cognos Planning Analyst and Contributor version 8.4 at their offices in Cresco, Iowa.
 
This project was successfully completed.

1/10 - 5/10 US Xpress, Chattanooga, TN
 
US Xpress is one of the largest privately-owned trucking companies in North America. I was hired to replace an outdated financial planning and reporting system with one that would provide management with the ability to analyze historical data and to serve as a tool for forecasting.
 
I implemented Cognos Planning version 8.4 and Cognos BI for this project. I built the planning models and worked with a Cognos BI consultant to create reports that were requested by management.
 
The project team was made up of two accountants, a Cognos BI consultant, an IT resource, and the CIO as the sponsor.
 
This project was successfully completed.

11/09 - 12/09 Harvest Natural Resources, Houston, TX
 
Harvest Natural Resources is an independent energy company engaged in the acquisition, development, production and disposition of oil and natural gas properties. In 2009, I was brought in to do classroom training on Cognos Planning version 8.4, and to develop a proof of concept model for forecasting revenues and expenses.
 
In June, 2010, Harvest Natural Resources asked me to come back and teach another Cognos Planning class at their office in Houston.
 
All of these projects were completed on time and on budget.

7/09 - 10/09 Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, Chicago, IL
 
I was hired by BCBSA to analyze an existing IBM Cognos 8 Planning model (version 8.4), make recommendations, and implement the changes.
 
After reviewing the cubes, links, calculations, and formats, I developed a proposal to add new cubes, delete unnecessary cubes, and make other changes to the model. I then implemented the changes.
This project was completed on time and on budget.

6/09 - 7/09 TNT Technologies, Peachtree City, GA
 
TNT Technologies is a leading Cognos TM1 professional services firm. I was hired to modify an existing TM1 model for a manufacturing company. I created new cubes and used Turbo Integrator to import data from spreadsheets. This project was completed on time and on budget.

6/09 Basin Electric Power Cooperative, Bismarck, ND
 
Basin Electric Power Cooperative buys and sells power in the upper Midwest. They needed onsite classroom training on Cognos Analyst and Contributor.
 
The training was conducted at a facility provided by Bismarck State College. The classes were completed on time and on budget.

6/09 Novartis, San Diego, CA
 
Novartis is a large international pharmaceutical company. They needed assistance upgrading Cognos Planning version 7.1 to version 8.4.
 
Once the new environment was created, I copied the Analyst and Contributor models over to the new version. We then loaded production data into the Contributor applications.
 
I also conducted classroom training on Cognos Planning Analyst and Contributor. This project was completed on time and on budget.

5/09 Paradigm, Concord, CA
 
Paradigm is a leading provider of complex and catastrophic medical management services. They needed some of their key personnel trained on Cognos Planning version 8.4 at their corporate headquarters in Concord, California.
 
I conducted several training sessions on Cognos Analyst and Contributor. This project was completed on time and on budget.

4/09 - 5/09 Radio Systems Corporation, Knoxville, TN
 
Radio Systems Corporation manufactures and distributes the PetSafe wireless fence system for dogs, along with other pet products. They needed their existing Cognos Planning models updated and improved.
 
After conducting onsite training on Cognos Planning version 8.3 with key personnel, the models were modified, tested, and deployed to users. The project was successful, and was completed on time and on budget.

3/09 San Jose Water Company, San Jose, CA
 
I was brought in to teach a Cognos Planning class for this public utility. The course included training on the Analyst, Contributor, and Manager applications. This assignment was successfully completed.

3/09 Straub Sales & Marketing Company, Tustin, CA
 
I was hired to conduct onsite training of Cognos Planning version 8.4 Analyst and Contributor for this regional beer distributor. This assignment was completed on time and on budget.

11/08 - 3/09 Fontainebleau, Miami Beach, FL
 
I implemented an integrated Cognos Planning solution for this luxury resort located in Miami Beach's South Beach area. I built the food and beverage, spa, retail, hotel, and allocations models using Cognos Planning version 8.3. I conducted classroom training sessions onsite.
 
The team included the manager of financial planning, two IT resources, and an outside business intelligence consultant.
 
This project was completed on time and on budget.

6/08 – 9/08 HealthNow, Buffalo, NY
 
I implemented Cognos Planning version 8.3 for this New York-based health insurance company. I designed the membership and medical loss ratio (MLR) models in Analyst. I created Contributor applications for both models. I conducted onsite training. This project was completed ahead of schedule and under budget.
 
The team included three actuaries, the actuary supervisor, two IT resources, and the director of business intelligence as the sponsor.
 
I was subcontracted directly through Cognos, an IBM company, for this project.

1/08 – 5/08 Zimmer, Warsaw, IN
 
Zimmer is a global manufacturer of surgical implants. I was hired to update Zimmer’s 2008 Cognos Planning model and prepare it for the 2009 annual budgeting process.
 
After copying the existing model to a development environment, I updated calculations, formats, and created new d-links. I deleted unnecessary objects from the model. After the new model was copied over to a production environment, I created new admin links and system links. I tested the calculations and links to ensure the integrity of the new model.
 
This project was completed on time and on budget. I was subcontracted through MMY Consulting of Indianapolis, IN.

10/07 MedAssets, Alpharetta, GA
 
MedAssets provides software and services to hospitals and medical clinics. They needed hands-on training in Cognos Planning Analyst and Contributor delivered onsite at their corporate headquarters in Alpharetta, GA, for some of their employees.
 
The classes were completed within the budgeted timeframe and were well received by MedAssets.

3/07 – 9/07 University of North Texas, Denton, TX
 
I implemented Cognos Planning Analyst and Contributor version 8.1 for this large university (34,000 students, 5000 employees).
 
The University of North Texas needed a planning solution that would centralize their annual budgeting process. With over 1200 departments submitting budgets every year, including revisions and adjustments, the budget office needed to automate many processes that had been done manually and on spreadsheets.
 
The team included the budget director of the main campus, the budget director of the medical school in Fort Worth, Texas, three IT resources, and two additional outside consultants.
 
I initially conducted classroom training onsite. Then I worked with a team of employees from the University and directed the rollout of the planning models. We designed cubes for expenses, revenues, and payroll. I supervised another senior-level Cognos Planning consultant and a Cognos BI consultant.
 
I was subcontracted for this assignment through Fujitsu Consulting. This project was completed on time and on budget.

12/06 – 2/07 Miller Brewing Company, Milwaukee, WI
 
Miller Brewing needed a support specialist to troubleshoot complex Cognos Planning sales forecast models. Fixing the models required expert knowledge of Analyst and Contributor version 7.3.
 
Correcting the Cognos errors involved analyzing macros, d-links, and saved selections. The analysis also included working with technical personnel on non-Cognos matters such as operating systems, hardware, and other environmental issues.
 
During this engagement I conducted classroom training with client personnel as well as other outside consultants.
 
This project was successfully completed.

7/06 – 11/06 Miva, Fort Myers, FL
 
Miva is a publicly held internet advertising company. I was brought in to implement a comprehensive sales and expense planning system for both domestic and international operations. The Analyst and Contributor applications within Cognos Enterprise Planning 7.3 were the tools chosen for this project.
 
After conducting on-site training, a three phase plan was created to build the U.S., international, and consolidation models. On the expense side, cubes were created to allow managers to budget payroll, travel, and other items through the web. For capital expenditures, asset purchases and depreciation cubes were developed.
 
Revenue forecasting was modeled based on divisional criteria and also deployed through the web.
 
The team included a senior financial analyst, her supervisor, two IT resources, and the CIO as sponsor.
 
I was subcontracted through Sky Solutions for this assignment. This project went live in October, 2006.

5/06 – 7/06 NationsRent, Fort Lauderdale, FL
 
NationsRent was a large, publicly-held equipment leasing company. NationsRent was acquired by Sun Belt on August 31, 2006, shortly after my engagement was completed.
 
I was hired to assist the director of finance with updating an existing budget model and documentation of NationsRent’s annual operating budget.
 
Cognos Enterprise Planning 7.3 was used as the primary tool. I was subcontracted through Sky Solutions for this assignment. This engagement was successfully completed.

4/06 – 5/06 PolyVision, Suwanee, GA
 
This manufacturer of electronic white boards needed a system to prepare their operating budgets that would not require the creation of hundreds of individual spreadsheets. I was brought in to mentor a new Cognos consultant who had started the implementation.
 
Cognos Enterprise Planning version 7.3 was used for this assignment. The project was completed on time and on budget.
 
I was subcontracted through Sky Solutions for this engagement.

1/06 – 4/06 Micron Technology, Boise, ID
 
Micron Technology is an international semiconductor manufacturer and the largest employer in the state of Idaho. Their annual sales exceed $5B.
 
I designed a pricing and profitability model for Micron. The company needed to simplify the way their salespeople determine pricing when negotiating contracts with their key accounts. Using Cognos Enterprise Planning version 7.3, I helped them to develop a model that calculated optimum price points based on volume, availability, features, and competitive bids.
 
The team included three pricing specialists, their supervisor, another consultant, and the CIO as sponsor. I conducted three Cognos Planning classroom training sessions onsite.
 
I was subcontracted through Son Systems for this assignment. This 11-week project was completed on time and on budget.

10/05 – 12/05 Insinkerator, Racine, WI
 
I implemented Cognos Enterprise Planning 7.3 for Insinkerator, the world’s largest manufacturer of garbage disposals. Insinkerator needed to automate their sales planning and forecasting process and deploy it through the web. I built an integrated forecasting system to forecast sales:
 
  • By channel
  • By product
  • By product group
  • By month
This system enables account managers to enter, submit, and modify their sales forecasts and do “What-if” analysis. It replaces an outdated Excel-based forecasting system.
 
I was subcontracted through CD Group for this assignment. This 8-week implementation was done on time and on budget.

9/05 – 10/05 Severn Trent Services, Arvada, CO
 
I implemented Cognos Enterprise Planning 7.3 for this national chain of environmental testing laboratories. Severn Trent needed to streamline their operational budgeting and forecasting process to include workflow to track the status of each unit’s sales and expense budget.
 
Because Severn Trent’s labs are located throughout the U.S., they needed a web-based solution. The models that were implemented included:
 
  • Sales
  • Operating Expenses
  • Payroll
  • Capital Budgeting
This system replaced an inefficient Excel-based process. I was subcontracted through CD Group for this assignment. The implementation was done on time and on budget.

9/05 Omron, Schaumburg, IL
 
Omron is a Japanese-owned manufacturer of factory automation equipment. They needed hands-on training for Cognos Enterprise Planning 7.3 for some of their employees to include the Analyst, Contributor, and Manager applications.
 
I custom designed a training program for them that was conducted onsite at their U.S. headquarters in Schaumburg, IL. I was subcontracted through CD Group for this assignment. The training was completed on-time and on-budget.

7/05 – 8/05 Blue Bird Corporation, Fort Valley, GA
 
I implemented Cognos Enterprise Planning 7.3 for this school bus manufacturer. Blue Bird’s primary need was to streamline their manufacturing planning process so that they could quickly reforecast man hours, material purchases, and changes to cash flow when production schedules were adjusted.
 
The Cognos model that I built replaced an inefficient system utilizing Excel and Cognos Finance. I was subcontracted through CD Group for this assignment. The project was done on time and on budget.

7/05 TallyGenicom, Chantilly, VA
 
TallyGenicom is a manufacturer of high speed impact printers. They needed a hands-on training program on Cognos Enterprise Planning Analyst and Contributor delivered at their corporate headquarters in Chantilly, VA, for some of their employees.
 
I conducted the training at their site and it was done on time and on budget.

6/05 – 7/05 Graymont Services, Richmond, BC
 
Graymont Services is a Canadian-based mining company headquartered in British Columbia. They had been using Cognos Enterprise Planning 7.2 for their operational budgets. They needed assistance implementing a rolling forecast model that could be updated monthly with current pricing and volume information.
 
I built their rolling forecast model on time and on budget.
